Edge Transmission Problems
I am aware this reply is like 8 days late, but you may have done something your Ford dealership service dept should have done. That is to attempt to determine the root cause for the problem. Unfortunately , their techs don't have the time or make that much $$ digging into problems. It's tough trying to get into the real details of what may appear to be a trans problem and most dealerships won't tackle a trans problem. They would rather replace it with a factory rebuilt unit that has a guaranty. It's quicker and the labor time is quite a bit less.
Someone with a lot of experience with that particular trans and the electronics that control it will be a better choice,, if you can find that place!

Some good points, try a transmission shop, but they just might say the same, replace without even doing a scan.
try this forum http://www.fordedgeforum.com/ I know on the Ford Explorer forum there are Ford reps who will help owners with issues, not sure if the Edge forum does have Ford reps following the posts?
Explorer forum http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...play.php?f=152 I remember an owner of an Edge asked a question to the Ford rep.

I was asking if the edge had a cvt trans option. CVT are not serviceable so that would explain why a rebuild cannot be done.
Any large ford dealership would have a trans rebuilder in shop for conventional transmissions. They should do a cost comparison of remanufactured vs repair. If a repair cost is 75% of the reman unit they would recommend not to repair the old trans.
to nosgirl75, yes, an seasoned tech would be able to determine the fault with only a test drive if they have experienced the problem before and if it is a common problem. He just saved you 1 hour diagnostic charge.

So the last time I posted about this Edge transmission issue was in October. The transmission was replaced, not rebuilt, that month. It was fine for a couple of weeks but started doing the bump again. Of course the techs couldn't find a problem or recreate the issue. I took it back in again last week for a couple of other minor , or so I thought, issues and now that's it's out of warranty they find a crack in the rear axle casing. They said it's going to cost $2500 to replace it. I'm DONE with this car. I loved my Edge but it's given me so many problems that I am even thinking of buying a Toyota, something I never thought I'd do. Like I said previously, my family three generations worth, have only ever had Fords and kept buying them because they lasted us. Up until now. If I had been smart, I'd have taken others' advice and gotten rid of my Edge as soon as the premium warranty ran out.
I purchased a 2008 Ford Edge Limited just 6 months ago. When driving on the highway my car will make a loud bang noise and jerk. It feels like someone hit me. It only lasts for a second then drives normal. It only happens when i drive for hours and on a highway. Ford dealerships say they can't do anything unless they are in the car test driving it to hear it. From everything i am reading it sounds like the transmission? Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if you were able to figure out what it was and if so is the car working alright now? Not sure if i should get rid of the car now before it ends up costing more money down the road.....

That is what my gut is telling me to do but my husband is upset with the money he will be loosing since we just bought the car a few months ago..... I think it will cost us more money in the long run if i keep it. Plus i have kids in the car with me all the time traveling to sports.. Don't feel safe in it.
Does anyone know what it takes for Ford to recall these pieces of you-know-what cars?
