Default 2002 Escape transmission problem

Anyone else ever have a problem with the O/D off switch? My light came on without touching the button and wouldn't go out when I did push the button. I pulled over and turned the car off. Then restarted it when I pushed the button again the light went out but putting it in gear I had no movement and the car drifts backwards. Only when I put it in 1st gear did I have any forward movement and even then it doesn't move that fast seems to be sticking. Anyone have any ideas?

The majority of the time when the OD lite illuminates , it indicates a transmission problem. The better thing to consider is to have the vehicle checked for any transmission codes. That should provide some direction. It does sound like there is an internal problem within the trans which could be electrical or hydraulic.
