2005 Ford Escape 2.3L Power Steering Suction Hose
Curious what everyone is doing when you need to replace the all rubber hose that connects power steering reservoir to pump? Ford part #5L8Z3691AA discontinued, no substitute listed.
I dont see this part available from napa, autozone, advanced, or rock auto.
Assuming you cannot find a aftermarket one online, which I could not, I see three possible solutions, they are in preferred order.
1 - Go to see the junk yards in your area and see if they have the correct year/engine that still have this hose, preferable you want a car to pull it off a car not wrecked in the front.
2 - Based on the ford 3.0 and 2.3 diagram the hose look similar with a slight change of angle at one turn, you might be able to make a 3.0 hose fit the 2.3.
3 - If you bring the old hose into a auto parts store they should be able to sell you a generic flex hose that you could route to fit your purpose, a fuel hose would work fine since this is a low pressure hose.

This started with me replacing the p/s pump and wanting to loosen the top of the hose at the res. It was stuck good on the plastic nipple, came right off at the pump. It's not pretty with the spring clamp & channelock bite marks so I don't trust it. Seems to be 11/16" or 3/4" I.D. depending on which end you throw a tape measure across it. Guess I'll start looking for 3/4" diesel fuel line. I appreciate your checking Scott!
I'll give that a try before speding $20 on diesel transfer hose. The replacement pump has a different cant on the nipple. I'll check it tomorrow to see if it's in the cards. Thanks Scott!
Also, some auto supply stores, NAPA does where I am, can make up just about any hose you need, return low press or hi press for hydraulic equip.
Just check and if there are any special fittings reqd, bring the old hose with you. Hi press can be steel braided or fabric braided with reinforcement. As earlier suggested suction side is low pressure , easier to get.
