Default 2009 Mercury Mariner Radio Audio cuts out every 4 seconds

There isn’t much more to the issue, it happens whether it’s bluetooth, CD, or radio. Four seconds on, on second off. It just began last night. The radio is the basic non-navigation option with Sync. 250k miles and 3.0, if that makes any difference.

This is my wife’s vehicle, and I’d like to get it fixed. Thanks, guys.

This could be easy or get a little complicated. First we need to know where the power is coming in that supplies that circuit.
If the owner's manual is available,it should tell which fuse protects what circuits in the vehicle.
Then starting at the fuse , using a simple test light, probe from the fuse itself on to where the power goes on that circuit.
Someplace there is a questionable connection that when it gets warm enough , the circuit opens ,then when it cools, it closes. This can happen in any circuit depending on the load current .Those electrons can do some amazing things and can respond in strange ways if unintended resistance is present in the circuit.
The frequency of the intermittent on ,off speed is dependent on just how much power is being used and the size of the resistance, which very likely is just a poor connection. It should be in the supply since several functions are affected according to the info received.

I’ll see what I can see later today.

When it happens, the LCD display still cycles, it doesn’t blip or lose power at all.

If the display is controlled by the radio on/off switch, the problem is inside the radio.

I just got my test light out, and there was no skipping. We’ll probably start planning for a new radio.

Thank’s for the input, Hanky.
