2011 escape starting problems
We have a 2011 ford escape with 9500 miles on it . It has the 4cyl. motor in it . A few days ago my wife went to go to work and called and said it would not start . When I got home I took a look at it . You turn the key to the start position and nothing would happen , All other equipment works ,Lights , radio , heater blower motor etc. I put a booster pack on and still nothing . Checked the voltage of the battery and it was fully charged , removed the battery terminals and cleaned them still no luck . We tried both sets of key's , tried starting it in park and neutral both and still nothing . I called to have it taken in .So the next day a rollback came to get it we hauled it in and when we got it to the garage I decided to try n start it When I turned the key to start it you could hear a series of clicking under the hood and it started . Now the dealer looked at it and said there was nothing the matter with it and gave us a bill to pay ( This vehicle was purchased new 10 mos. ago and has 9500 miles on it . I asked why I was charged because it's still under warranty and was told there was nothing found wrong so they cant bill ford so we need to pay WTF ) Any way we drove home and went to leave later and when it was put to the start position there is a slight delay and the series of rapid clicking under the hood before it finally started . Any Ideas here ?
Just from what you describe, IF,,,, the rapid clicking is the relay for the starter circuit there could be several possible reasons. One could be the security system malfunctioning, another could be a charging system problem , another could be a loose battery cable connection at the battery, another could be the ignition switch itself.
I know my next suggestion is not what you would like to hear, but this may be one of those situations where one of the alternatives would be to ", Let it develop"!
It is always good to have it on record with the dealer that this has been happening while under warranty and they didn't know how to repair the problem.
