Default 2012 Ford Escape AWD 6 cyl P0740 and P0750

Yesterday evening I was about to go to work when I started my Escape and noticed the orange Wrench warning light was on. I have NEVER seen this before, so I turned the SUV off, and used my other vehicle for the night.
This morning I did some troubleshooting, and pulled codes. I have both a P0740 and a P0750. While pulling codes and sitting in the vehicle, I heard a very faint unknown noise coming from the engine bay area. I popped open the hood, and what do I find, other than.... a GIANT RABBIT sitting on my engine, staring at me. It took me by total surprise, and before I could get my phone to snap a photo, he hopped away.

Now, back to my problem... I checked (and changed) the transmission fluid. cleared codes, and they come right back... but HERE is my bigger concern... Peter Cottontail apparently ate a few wires in my engine bay!

There are three severed wires coming out of a connecter in the center of the firewall that go through a large wiring harness. I would REALLY like to know what these wires are for, where they go, and if it's possible my issue with the transmission codes?

Do you think it is possible to simply splice these wires back together?

Welcome to the site...

If I knew the connector or number, I could look into the color/tracer and tell you what the circuits are referenced to.
Certainly a repair is in order. It may correct you issues. Unless, they were there prior to the chewing..

Where would I find that information? The picture above is in the engine bay (on the firewall or bulkhead) on top near the hood or windshield. There are three connectors, the one in question is the far right as you look at it. (Driver's side)

I have no clue what they go to or control...

Would it be safe to just splice the wires back together?

It appears those wires were not cut intentionally.

There is no reason I can determine why they would be cut , so I would splice them back together and see what we get.

Just make sure the right wire color goes to the right wire, lol.

I don't know if the warning lamp will go out without driving the vehicle

The wires and circuits would be by wire color, and the tracer/stripe. As long as your working on that single connector, you'd be fine to repair the wire color and tracers as they appear...
