Default 2016 Ford Escape Titanium Power Liftgate Won't Close

Power Liftgate will open from instrument panel, key fob, and foot activation. It will not close from instrument panel, key fob, foot activation or switch on hatch. Get 5 beeps when hitting switch on hatch. I have already taken battery post off for 15 minutes and still doesnt work. Any suggestions?

Default Same here

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever find a fix for this?

Considering the age of your vehicle, or both if it applies, would you care to guess how many times that hatch has been opened and closed and the wiring supplying instructions to the unit has had to flex,? Might be a good idea to check if the signal is getting to the unit.

Totally. I recently purchased it off my mum, who had an extended warranty, so it has had regular checks by the dealership so I know it was well looked over. The weird thing is that the signal from the FOB gets to it, it jerks like it is trying to close, but then beeps a few times as if there is something obstructing it.

Just curious if anyone has had this and been able to fix it themselves or if they need a technician to see to it.

To solve this problem, you must reset the power liftgate controller as follows:

1) Disconnect car battery
2) Close the tailgate completely (essential that it is closed when battery is reconnected)
3) After 20 seconds, connect battery

It should now work normally. You can adjust height of liftgate when it opens by manually placing it to desired height, then holding the liftgate Close button until you hear a beep.
