Default What I have seen with this fault

I rebuilt a 2024 Maverick that had a punched radiator. I brought the coolant level up after replacement. With the "ambient air" temp sensor not plugged in, when starting it knowing it's totally cold, the temp gauge did as you said, and went straight to the highest spot, and gave the warning. After plugging the ambient temp sensor back in, everything returned to normal.
