My brother-in-law has purchased a 2013 Escape SEL. He received only one FOB that appears to be a genuine Ford key FOB, but it sometimes will not start the vehicle when parked for about 2 hours. When trying to start it, it acts like the brake hasn't been pushed and the vehicle will only go into Accessory mode. He has changed the battery but the vehicle problem remains. After waiting for another hour or so, the vehicle starts normally. Any ideas?

 

Does it work better if he is closer to the vehicle?

 

No, when it is acting up, ha can be in the vehicle with the FOB and all it does is activates accessory mode. I have emailed the service department of a local dealer and received a reply that the FOB might need to be reprogrammed.
