Default flashing light

Hi! On my dash a light comes on that looks like a vehicle with a lock. It comes on and stays on when my ford escape is turned off. It flashes on and off all the time the vehicle is off but goes away when I start it. What does this mean?

If you have the owner's manual it should explain what this lite is for and what may cause it to illuminate. If you don't have the manual let us know and I believe we can tell you how to get one on line.

I'm pretty sure that would be the basic OEM 'security alarm' light that flashes every few seconds (red) whenever the vehicle is turned off. No relationship to whether or not it's locked that I can see... so no idea what it really DOES, other than flash.

I do not have an owner's manual and therefore could not consult it.
