Default Tire sensor?

Hi, I have a 2010 Escape and wonder if I get winter rims and do not put new tire sensors in them how will it effect my truck?

Will I just get a dash light that stays on, or will it do more?

Is there any way to disconnect this feature without effecting anything else?

Thank you!

As you know the TPMS is installed on all vehicles after a certain year, under a certain weight class ,as required by law! It is there for your protection and others with whom you share the road. It is not a wise decision to by-pass safety features installed by the manufacturer. The better move would be to take advantage of the system and have the sensors installed on all the wheels and let it protect you and your investment.

Thank you for your response, while I respect this I do not support the ridiculous price they charge for these. I do not have the extra 150.00 for the sensors.

I take great care of my vehicle and this is an idiot sensor! I maintain my my truck in tip top shape and do not need a sensor to tell my my tires need attention. Many new cars/trucks do not have this feature. They tell me it is a safety thing, yet we do nothing about people on the road driving with their dogs on their lap and air bags.

I would be happy to support this if they were 20 dollars each or so. They only cost the manufacturer probably 5 dollars each from china!

Did not mean to rant, but it is like anti lock breaks, if you know how to drive you do not need to them ( I use to race cars) . They do not have anti lock brakes on race cars for a reason. They are for people who need them, not for all of us, but we have to buy them regardless!

You forgot to mention the people who are eating cereal, putting on make-up and all that stuff too!
From racing you must agree it is ten times more hazardous driving on the public road than driving on the track with other experienced drivers.
That's why they need all that extra stuff to make up for the inexperienced drivers out there.
Not all TPMS systems have the same requirements so it might be a better check to ask a Ford dealer if your particular model will have special requirements.

Well you had some good points I must admit! i Guess we will not get into the fact that everyone should be retested every 5 years. It would sure make the road a lot safer.
