Default Torque converter?

03 Escape 295k, 4WD. All gears change, though hesitantly with poor acceleration. Whistling noise develops under load at 2,000+ rpms. Goes away immediately after coming off accelerator. No codes.

I'm only assuming a bad torque converter. Thoughts or other possibilities?

thanks!

Only a thought.
Sometimes an intake air leak can produce a whistle and if it is after the MAF sensor the system doesn't get accurate info to provide the correct amount of fuel which could result in a low power complaint.

Thanks! I've already looked at the easy things. I actually did test the MAF after I replaced the seals under the intake. It tested having no signal, so I replaced it. I've replaced all the vacuum lines, as well. The whistle definitely sounds like the torque converter. No sound until the transmission warms, and no sound under 2,000 rpms. No sound while the car is revved while idling or stationary.

I would think if the torque converter had the problem , it would do it all the time.
The air intake is close to the TC area and under load is when it would sound strongest.
It does sound like there is an air leak in either the ductwork or between the MAF and throttle body.

If it was an air leak, would it not whistle when the rpms went up while at idle?
