Default Will....NOT...come out of park! This may help you!

I will make this as short, but as helpful as possible. We drive a 2010 escape and I strted to have trouble getting it out of park, it got worse over a couple of days, each time harder to do. So here is what I learned, hope it helps others.

I did research on the Internet, and one thing you should look for first is, when you step on the brake to release the gear shifter do your brale lights come on? If not, then like myself it is almost guaranteded that it is your brake light switch.

Look under your dash where your brake peddle is located, in our 2010, you will see a blue and grey plastic switch that is attached to the brake peddle closer to the top. It is plugged in to a multi coloured plug. This fix is a piece of cake! You just take it, pull out the wiring harness and twist it clock wise or counter clockwise , sorry can remember which. Wise and pull, out it comes.

I bought a new one for 50$ practiced putting the old one in and out to get the correct twist and not damage the new one, new one in twist, and plug in... Now no problem. I realize that there can be other causes , but if yor barke lights do not come in when it will not come out of park this is your very best firt solution! Good luck, if you need more help message me, thank you for those that help point me in the correct direction.
