Default 1983 Escort LX R12 AC recharge

My sons car needs done. I thought all the R12 was gone but I see some on ebay. My local shop said if I could find it they would do it. Anybody have any ideas how many cans I would need to recharge his system? It quit blowing cold about 2 years ago

r-12 can't be legally sold in Canada...I assumed the USA was the same. Is this a r-12 substitute? If it is a substitute, the container may say the conversion amount compared to r-12 ie 10% more/less than the r-12 amount.

the original r-12 amount is 2.13 lbs.

thanks for the info
You can buy it on EBAY but it says this as disclaimer
YOU MUST BE AN EPA CERTIFIED TO USE THIS PRODUCT OR YOU ARE TRANSFERRING IT TO AN EPA CERTIFIED USER AND BY BUYING THIS PRODUCT YOU AGREE WITH THESE CONDITIONS
My local shop has the proper equip to capture any excess so looks like for about $100 ebay purchase and $100 for my shop I can get him AC again for $200 Gonna think serious about this as he drives it in San Antonio and this is Texas after all!

ha. That is the real deal. Notice it says cannot be shipped to Canada. I'm shocked they sell that at all. Hasn't been available in Canada for at least 15 years. That stuff is a horrible ozone depleter.

There's lots of counterfeit stuff out there , that has all kinds of bad stuff in the mix. You don't really know what your are buying.
