Default 1998 Ford Escort wagon starting problems

After I had a new battery put in I had occasional starting problems. It seemed to be mostly when starting on a slope, down or up. I took it into the garage for new spark plugs and to check the starting problem. They changed the fuel filter then the crankshaft sensor, still no good. In fact it has got worse since being in the garage. It runs okay once started. I found at first that if I put it in gear and it rolled, it would start, but now even that doesn't help.It starts okay when warm. They checked the battery and said it wasn't faulty. Any ideas, please?

You did not mention if it cranks over or not. If it does then i have an idea, my guess is it is the starter. I have experianced on 2 occasions of a Ford cranking but not starting and it was the starter. Itwas worn out and not cranking hard enough. One other idea is the ignition module may be faulty.
