Ford Escort This compact car is still commonly seen on the road today with its economical engine and small body, makes for a great daily commuter into the crowded city.

Default 1999 Ecort runs rough mechanics don't know why

I've had my 1999 Escort in the shop 3 times for the same issue -- runs rough, check engine line periodically comes on. Mechanics have done all the things that needed doing - replaced spark plug wires (which needed to be done anyway) cleaned fuel system. There're no vacuum leaks and the plugs aren't fouled. The computer did not register an error code, or if it did, it cleared by the time the mechanics looked at the car.

If you've had this problem and resolved it, what did you do?

Do a compression test to make sure the compression is up on all the cylinder. These engines have a track record or dropping valve seats. Hopefully that isn't your problem, but better to find it now if it is than to wait until it drops completely out and does more damage.
