Question 95 escort stalling

I have a 95 escort 1.9L 5 speed manual
The other day I was driving and had no power in 1st and again in 2nd. The next day after that it would barely start it would just crank and some time attempt to start. Well I got it started and after driving it 15 miles or so when I would slow down to round a curve it would just stall it did this a few times before getting home. Today it started fine but again after about 10 mile it would just stall when turning curves and going down to 2nd gear. I notice some white smoke comng out of the exhaust pipe it doesn't smoke all the time and also out of the oil fill port on the valve cover. I also can smell gas/exhaust inside the car.
It only seems to stall after its warm and only when I have the clutch it and break curves stop signs etc.. Any ideas on where to start?
Thanks for any help

Might I suggest you do a thorough visual inspection of all the vacuum hoses , especially the PCV system. Sounds like the PCV system isn't functioning or you have a really lot of miles on that engine.
