Default 97 Escort bogs/hesitates

I have a 97 Escort LX with 146,000 miles on it. Just within the past couple of days, it has developed a problem. It is a 5 speed and when accelerating in 1st & 2nd gear it "bogs/hesitates" when reaching the peak RPM's before time to shift. Any ideas on this? Also when driving along in the higher gears it will suddenly bog down as if it is starving for gas. It will pick up again if I push in the clutch and rev the engine. Vacumn maybe? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Detent or shift modulator on trans. or engine performance is bad at higher RPM. Maybe check trans. fluid.

It is a 5 speed manual transmission. It bogs down while driving and starts losing speed, like it's not getting gas, and when I step down hard on the gas it revs up and picks up speed again

Could be a bad catalytic converter. Could be your trans. blew out fluid (believe me - I blew a trans. in a fiery ball before and it never hurts to check fluid or gear oil -whatever it's running). Could even be an engine sensor. Have you ever replaced the fuel filter?

We just had the fuel pump, fuel sender assemble, fuel pump level sensor and fuel filter replaced just a couple of weeks ago and thought the problem was solved. . New spark plugs and wiring also. Car was running great after that for about 2-3 weeks. Now it's stalling out again and won't restart until the car sits about 45 minutes or so. Also the past few days it stalls outshortly after starting up then willrun great after it runs a few minutes.I am getting very frustrated Has anyone else had this problem.
