My 97 escort 2.0 litre can't take the 30.C temps we are having lately, is there a bigger rad available.

 

Is there anyone with info on this, i am still having issues? My fan is working.

 

Sounds like there may be an issue with the cooling fan kicking on. Start the car and turn the A/C on and let it idle the cooling (radiator) fan should turn on if not probably either the cooling fan is bad, you have bad wiring in the circuit or the relay in the CCRM is not working properly. The best way to test to see if the cooling fan is bad would be run wires straight from the battery to the cooling fan plug and see if it kicks on. If it does you probably have an issue with the wiring or CCRM. My guess would be the relay in the CCRM. These CCRM's commonly have problems with relays. If you find out that the CCRM is bad I have one for sale if you are interested it is listed in the for sale section of this forum, just drop me a PM. The CCRM is a small black box located under the intake air tube. Hope this information is of some assistance.

 

I'd have to agree that there's something else at fault here. The capacity of the cooling system should still be adequate at those temps. If the above suggestion doesn't pan out, check or replace your thermostat.

 

Yes fan was working, the ac condensor was pretty beat up and half plugged. I installed a new one yesterday and now the temp runs normal. How much gas should the a/c hold after being emptied out?

 

I think the capacity is 28oz. If you use a set of manifold gauges the low pressure side should run 45-50psi and the high pressure side shouldn't run above 300psi.

 

Well the new ac core helped some, but when the outside air gets to 90 or over, the gauge runs pretty near to the end. If i turn the heat up in the heating system a little the gauge goes down. This makes me think that there is just not enough water running through the cooling system. I looked for a bleed valve on head but can't see one. Maybe i have an air lock. Is there a bleed screw? 1997 2.0 litre,,, I might add that the car has 425000 kms , 265625 miles. The engine i put in had 115000 kms,,71875 miles. Runs really well. Just trying to keep it running for the last daughter to get her licence and practice with.

 

I'm pretty sure the newer Escorts had a two speed fan. I'm wondering if your fan is only running on the lower speed?? I also have a '97 Escort and the stock cooling system has always kept the engine plenty cool even in 100*+ temperatures and running the a/c.

 

Trying to touch all the bases, is the cooling fan blowing in the right direction?

That is exactly what I was thinking. These engines run their hearts out and need the second speed on the fan to make the difference. I had to replace the fan on my 97 and it only has 135k on it.
