Default 98 Escort and Gauges problems

Hi Guys.

I got a 98 escort lx. The problem is that the temperature gauge is beyond the red line(far beyond). I know the car is not overheating because it shows that even when car is cold. Also, I just filled up car and for some reason the low fuel light goes off, now when that happens the temperature gauge comes back to normal. Weird. This problem occurred after the transmission was replaced, but the mechanic says it was like that (which I know it was not). So I think that maybe commuter is screwing up or they did something with wires. I need help. I'm just worried that my car could catch on fire if there is a circuit. Please help.

Dan

Any ideas why a temp gauge in a 98 Escort would be intemittent? It just works fine sometimes and then it doesn't, no rhyme or reason that I can find,,,,,
