Hello all, I have a 99 ZX2 with a 2.0 DOHC engine and a F4EAT automatic overdrive transmission that has swarmed on me. The local transmission shop said the car has a mazda transmission and only will rebuild American built transmissions, but would install one for me if I find one. The local Ford dealer wants $2,300 for a remanufactured one which is out of my means. I have found 3 different 1999 Ford Escort 4door sedans locally with good transmissions but they have 2.0 SOHC engines. Does anyone out there know if they will interchange.

I found out that the transmission from the SOHC will not work on the DOHC engine. I did locate some used transmissions for around $500
Hope this info helps out someone down the road
