My Ford escort 1.6 Zetec failed to start one day, giving that nasty "no compression" sound. A strip down revealed that the inlet cam had shifted and was out of time with the exhaust cam , however the belt was fine and there was no sign of damage to the valves or head. pistons were ok -no holes etc. however after re timing the car and resetting the cams. We still can't get it to compress or fire, we made one error when we removed the hydaulic lifters/tappets by letting them drain of oil the wrong way up.

Now we are stuck -engine back togethercorrectly timed, lifters soaked in oil...etc

So now what?
