My '91 Ford Escort LX hatchback (1.9L) fuel gauge always says "full" until I'm almost empty and then it goes to empty. I have yet to run out of gas so it's not the biggest deal and mechanics have quoted me a pretty heavy price. Is this something I could fix on my own (semi) cheaply? The educated guess is that something is wrong with the lever inside the tank but I haven't been willing to shell out the cash to get it thouroughly looked at, so it could be something else.

NEWBE here, hey did you ever find out any info on what could be done to fix the fuel gage issue on the 91 Escort?

ive got a lx 93,new tank fitted the gauge is up and down but havent run out of fuel yet.
