Default please help! possble fuel problems among others ??

I have a 98 Ford escort lx 2.0 , for the past 2 years or so the car has lagged or bogged out when I shift into a higher gear and punch the gas, once the rpms increase it runs fine . I changed the fuel filter and plugs thinking it would help but didn't do anything so being it still ran fine I just ignored it . However just recently I started the car up and began to drive, there was no power at all even with the pedal to the floor but there was no lag like before, no check engine light.... Got the car home shut it off and it hasn't started since. Got it in the garage and ran some diagnostics ....car has spark and spark plugs are good , checked the injectors with noid light - checks fine , hooked up the fuel pressure guage -has 40 psi (obviously not running ). Had another fuel pump from the junk yard so I swapped that out and still nothing. I even pulled off the fuel rail and injectors, they looked fine. Oh and I also checked the inertia switch .... Any ideas ? I'm desperate

Get or rent a compression tester and run a compression test on the engine.
That test will help reveal if the timing belt has jumped. If the belt has never been changed to your knowledge, it may be due for replacement along with the water pump as long as you are in there. Let us know what you find.
