I have a '92 escort 4 speed manual. At times while sitting at idle or driving the RPM's will begin to rise and will continue to go up (4000+ rpms) unless I shut down and restart. On restart it runs OK for a while then the same problem. Changed throttle pos sensor. No luck. Also maybe not related but when I start the engine the windshiel wipers come on. Will run for about 30 secs then go off or I can restart and no problem. When I do turn on the wipers the intermittent switch doesn't work. Any help thanks.....

 

Might be a good idea to check all your ground connections.
