Default Wiring Color Code "AB" reference

1988 Escort Wagon GL

I have Ford Shop Manuals (1988) and Car Wiring Diagrams (1989).

I'm trying to find out what "AB" following the wire color refers to.

"AB" reference doe NOT appear in the service bulletin

Per your 228 14 BR/Y AB line:
228 = circuit number
14 = gauge size
BR/Y = Brown/Yellow
AB = abbreviation of the Application

Your 2nd pic you zoomed in too much so I can't see the full page of which one you are looking at, can't tell which application.
Here's an example shown below:

Thanks heiko, but I don't follow. "AB" is literally all over these drawings. I do not see a "chart" like the one you posted. Do I need to follow the circuit all the way back through the drawing(s) to identify its source/destination? Sounds very tedious.

Too zoomed out, I'm afraid.

I'm chasing an ignition problem, starting with the TFI (which is at A-4, on this drawing).

This is what I mean by "all over"

This is at C-9 on the same drawing.

What's the 8th character of your VIN, 9 or J? Multiple matches for 1.9L I need to know the exact one in order to pull out the info from my alldata software.

I really appreciate you taking the time to dig this stuff up for me, but now I've got TMI syndrome.
Your diagram does not seem to correspond to what I have under the hood (more likely I don't understand the difference).

This is my TFI; the wire colors and pin postions correspond to my factory wiring diagram.

Can you interpret/transpose the pin-outs on your diagram for me? For example; "11" on my diagram corresponds to "5" on the alldata drawing.

I added reference numbers (in red).

Above is the zoom-in view of the 4th pic I posted previously. The circuit number and wire color all match up.
Below is the index page of Ignition_System-Testing_Inspection_Procedures.pdf attached below.

Spoiler

I have no clue what a "spoiler" is. ...

Thanks for the test procedure file.

I think what's messing with me is that the alldata diagram looks nothing like that actual TFI module pin layout. But the test procedure is an excellent tool.

I still do not know what the "AB" designator on the FORD OEM diagram is in reference to.

It doesn't even match up with the Test Procedure drawing... VERY CONFUSING.

Why don't you go by just the circuit numbers?
I am trying to match up your 6-pin connector and here's what I got:

1) PIP (Profile Ignition Pick-Up) - Circuit 349
2) SPOUT (Spark Output) - Circuit 324
3) START (Ignition Switch) - Circuit 32
4) TFI PWR (Key Power) - Circuit 16
5) TACH (Ignition Coil Ground) - Circuit 11
6) IGN GND (Ignition Switch Ground) - Circuit 259

You flip your connector upside down then alldata matches up fine.
