shut off while reversing!
I have 01 EX 2wd with 406k mile.my issue is that when I put the truck in reveres it shuts off. immediately the Ex-cranks, and i have to give it gas with 1 foot on gas pedal and other on brake. This has never happened before. no check engine light, tranny fluid level is correct., new fuel filter.#help

As usual we have to start someplace.
So, why not the electrical system, This can be a little tricky because we cannot always see those darn electrons.
If there is insufficient power available to the system, the computer just shuts down and the vehicle just will not run with a low voltage problem.
A good worthwhile check is to verify the battery and charging system are up to the job.
Before going any further, might be a good move to see just what we have with those two items.

Could I have a vacuum leak,or exhaust restriction, truck drives fine, only problem is reverse parking,it shuts of and restart, and ****s into reverse restriction

Most times if the vehicle runs fine in the forward gears , but not when reverse is selected, we need to look at all the things that are supposed to happen when it goes into reverse.
We usually make a list and then eliminate each one by verifying they are working correctly.
I believe we can eliminate a vacuum leak and exhaust restriction because they would affect the forward gears selected also and evidently we don't have any problem there,
Yes- No?

Suppose we check just what the reverse lights are doing when we shift into reverse?
I ask this question because if there is a dead short to ground in that system , every time you place the selector in the reverse position you could be overloading the electrical system to the point the computer stops working and of course the engine shuts down.
We need to make sure there is no problem with the reverse position and the lights might help show if that is so.
