Default 1998 Expedition 4.6L

has anyone seaformed their engine?

What are the results - I have 180,000 miles on the engine - would it be worth it?

Default covers

I pulled the valve covers - they were both leaking so I put in some new gaskets. The covers were pretty gummed up.

I guess you will get mixed replies on this.
If it were me this is what I would do,
Buy a good grade of motor oil as recommended in your owner's manual and change the oil & filter like every two thousand miles once or twice and then resume the recommended oil change interval which is probably every 3 thousand miles. When you go stirring up all that sediment and "stuff" it doesn't all always go to the filter and it's free to go where it wants and, most of the time, where it should not be.
With that many miles, you might be better off going to Vegas or Atlantic City if you really want to gamble.

if you want to clean out your engine oil sludge you can use a quart of diesel fuel in with your oil just let it idle for about 10 or 15 mins and don't under any circumstances rev it up. then change the oil once or twice to get rid of any remaining fuel what you end up with is a nice and clean crankcase without any sludge. and this is my advise only and I know I'll catch a bunch of hell on this one but stay away from Penzoil that crap gunks up more engines than any other kind that I've seen
