My first post here. My wife drives a 2000 Expedition that is having problems when starting. When you turn the key it grinds. Is this the Starter? Solenoid? It starts after 2 or 3 tries but someday it might not. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

It could be either one, best move usually to replace starter (sometimes bendix drive is defective) Once starter is removed a thorough check of the flywheel is recommended ,just covering another base.
