Hi everyone...new to the forum.

My wife drives a 2005 Eddie Bauer. When I got home today she told me that she couldn't get one of the rear doors open from the outside - only from the inside. I played around with it for a few minutes but couldn't see anything noticeably wrong with it. Then I accidentally did something stupid - I flicked the child safety lock back and forth a few times and didn't realize I had set it to "lock" before my son closed the door. Now it won't open from the outside OR the inside.

So I have two questions:
1) Any thoughts on how I can get the door open so I can at least unlock the child safety lock and be able to open the door from the inside again?
2) Any thoughts on what was wrong with the door in the first place and how I might go about fixing?

Appreciate any advice!

 

I don't know if you could call this advice, but if it has electric locks what about the switch on the driver's door that opens all door locks?
If that doesn't operate it you may need to use something like a coat hanger to release the latch from between the glass and weatherstrip at the window.
