I apologize if there is already a thread for this topic...but.

I have just recently purchased a 29' TT (4300lbs dry weight) for the family. Plan on making mostly 50-100 mile trips to make some memories with my 2 and 4 year old boys, wife, and dog. I also hope to make an occasional long trip (500+ miles with decent grades).

My question is about engine size in relation to vehicle size.

I have a choice between a Ford Expedition (Avg. 5600 curb wgt) and a Ford Excursion (Avg. 7000 curb wgt). They are similarly priced and similar on miles. Both are 5.4L SEFI V8 engines. The Excursion tow rates at 7200 (4.10 RA) with 4x4. The Expedition tow rates at 8650 (3.73 RA) with 4x4. I assume they factor in the Excursions curb wgt in towing capability with this engine.

Would the SIZE of the Excursion make for a better tow? Or...will the Expedition be just as beneficial of a purchase considering the towing specs? I would also be considering gas mileage but would sacrifice a couple MPG's for simple family comfort.

Im not really looking V10 for the Excursion as the gas mileage must be brutal compared to the Expedition or lower engine Excursion. But I could be convinced....haha.

I wouldn't underestimate the V10. I have seen where they obtained better mileage than the 5.4. It doesn't work as hard !
