Default HELP!! transmission swapping issues

I have a 99 2wd expedition with 5.4 ..the transmission is out only reverse is working...I have as well a 99 f150 with 5.4 but is 4x4 can I and will the transmission from my f150 work and go in my expedition? Will the plugs match up and what exactly do I have to change out from the 2wd tranny to the 4x4 tranny other then the tail end for the yoke to go into?

Not recommended.
Why ? ,,,,,Physically because parts may fit is no guaranty the system will function as designed. There is more to how and why a trans works these days than look alike parts..
If the rest on the vehicle is decent, you might consider just getting the trans replaced or repaired. The practice of switching parts comes with it's own problems and the can of worms opens. When we take a chance and introduce other problems we wind up with a SERIES of new problems that nobody wants to try to unravel. Now we could have a vehicle for sale cheap because nobody wants to touch it and it can become VERY expensive to straighten out.

Are they the same transmission? There is only 2 options, 4R70W and 4R100. If they are the same then you should be able to transfer the external parts as needed, such as if it mounts differently and potentially swapping the tail housing.

If you tell me the Trans model I can look up discrepancies in the workshop manual and verify it could physically be swapped.

You have to swap the tail house no matter what because the transmission from my f150 is a 4x4 and the expedition is 2x4 so I know that's gotta happen but I'm pretty sure they are same transmission or whatever that it's just the one is 4wd and the other is a 2wd thinking that's all I have to do is swap the tail house on it but idk? That's what I'm trying to find out

I'd like to help you. Verify the trans are the same, I saw a thread on here where someone needed that info and received the info. I don't know how to link that thread though. They look very different though, the bell housings are different. Or check the TR code on the door jambs.
Get me that info and I'll look it up via Ford Workshop Manual. I can check wiring diagrams to verify they have same plugs. I can ask my parts department if they have the same part numbers. I just need basic info

Ok that's the 4R70. Give me some time and I'll crosscheck the Service manuals

OK the replacing transmission will mount up. All the internals and wiring are compatible and like you have said you'll have to swap the tail shaft, extension housing and trans mount.
