Default Lash adjuster question

Hi all, I started a timing job on a 5.4 3V expedition. While doing this I came across a few bad lash adjusters and roller followers. I removed all 12 so I can replace all at once. Where the lash adjuster is inserted, for operation, how does it normally look? On all 12 where they sit, in the bottom of the housing/well, all are missing a portion. So it is not a solid bottom. All are missing about the same amount of wall, Is this normal or is this head done for? Haven’t looked at the driver side yet.

Jay

I believe this to be the oil supply to the lash adjuster. I'm doing that job on my car too, and all of mine are like this too.
