1992 Ford Explorer 4X4
I have an old 92 model Explorer I use to pull my boat with, the 4wd died, and I need the power to pull up the steep ramps, the shop wants 6 hundred to 850 to repair it.
it seems to be an electical problem and that sounds like a lot of money to me. do you know how many componets make up the elec. circut, I know it has a Fuse( I replaced that),, it has a 4wd,low range switch( I replaced that), it has a module, (I replaced that) do you know how many more componets are involved, and have I given you enough info. Thanks, Dvae

If you haven't checked, the most common issue with the 4WD system on the Rangers/Explorers is that the SERVO motor on the transfer case siezes up. This is normally caused by extended periods of non-use. The servo motor is mounted to the back side of the transfer case and looks like a wiper motor. To check it, just unbolt it and have somebody turn your switch from 2WD High to 4WD High to 4WD Low and see if the motor turns. If it doesn't, then you can disassemble these and clean it up, then regrease it. It takes a security torx to unbolt. Hope this helps.
