1993 Explorer Used - Questions, Please HELP
I hope these aren't dumb questions or in the wrong thread, but I don't know about Fords. I bought my 1993 Ford Explorer a few years ago. My father-in-law checked it out first and it came from a family friend that sells vehicles. It had a rebuilt transmission just before purchase.
1. So that I can get a new insurance quote, I need to know if it is 4x4 or 4x2. There is a 4x4 push button on the dash, but it doesn't click, make noise when pressed, nor light up and only my back wheels have ever turned when stuck. Could it be a 4x2 with option for 4x4 conversion or is it just that it's a 4x4 with a bad connection or something? I don't have the need to convert if 4x2, but would fix it if 4x4 is already there. I do have a hitch if it helps. Any suggestions on how to know? Carfax did not say and I never thought about it until now.
2. How can I tell how many miles are actually on the car? odometer only has 5 spots, so I never see above 99,999 and I'm curious. It just rolled back to 00001 instead.
3. A/C not working (nor elec. windows so it's hot out!
). Thermostat was replaced last year. Coolant full. Refrigerant full to my knowledge because I put it in (stopped at 45 in 90 heat). Compressor fan clicked on during installation and air gets colder during that first time while filling, but the next morning there is no air and it makes the temperature gauge raise as though I'm overheating. When I turn the AC off, the gauge goes back down but sometimes still blows in a small amount of heat through vents. Compressor fan did click during the freon fill until it go close to full. I did not overfill. Could it be thermostat again? If so, is there a service manual or anything to show me where it's located?
4. If air can't be fixed, any idea on how hard it would be to fix electric windows or where to look up a new motor? They will roll down with a little help, but practically have to be yanked up while pushing the button to roll up. The back windows are starting to slip down on their own a little from the vibration of driving, so I'm not sure what's wrong there either.
I think that's it for now
Again, sorry if I posted in the wrong spot. Thanks for any information!
