Default 2000 explorer axle problem

works perfectly in 4x4 "auto. when you go to 4x4 high, it seems that the right front wheel locks up when you make a right turn. If you move in a straight line it doesnt lock at all.
any input appreciated

In Auto, the front is allowed to slip inside the transfer case, making it a not true 4x4. When you shift it into 4x4 Hi or Low, it becomes a true 4x4 and you get axle windup, which if your driving on a hard surface, will cause one side or the other to bind in a turn and could cause some damage.

Thanks for the reply. This started in the winter time, and I noticed only when I made a right turn. It would lock up and then kinda pop and seem to be ok. this week when I tried it, the pavement was dry, however, I was in a parking lot and was moving very slowly as I know driving on dry pavement is a bad idea. that wheel seemed to really lock up hard, and I did not force it at all. just put it back in " auto" and continued on.
I think something is definately wrong with it, and I have an extended warranty so Im gonna have it checked out.
