Default 2001 explorer

Hello,first timer here,I have owned a 2001 exp. sport for 2 years now,I rarely use 4x4 traction,
had some snow yesterday and put it in 4x4 low,now when I try to put it back to 2 wd. or 4x4
high,it still shows 4x4 low on dashboard.is it still actually in low or is it just the light on dashboard,I cant get out (driving) to actually feel if it's in low or not. Iv'e used 4x4 high a fair amount in the past and it always disengages when I put it back to 2 wd. It's about 26 degrees outside.

If you are still in 4x4 low you would probably know it. Engine RPM relative to speed would be way off.
