Default 2002 Explorer Sport revving

Hi Folks,

I have no idea what the issue with my car is. It currently has around 72k miles. I changed the transmission fluid at Jiffy Lube at 60k miles. For the past 3 weeks or so whenever I have the car idling on D gear the engine revves by itself as if someone were tapping the gas every second. If I put it in neutral while idling the revving goes away. If I put it in reverse while idling it will also do the revving thing.

Does anyone have any clue what the root cause is?

A guess; faulty temp sensor making it think it's cold..........therefore dumping more gas to warm it up.....I'm no mechanic...........my t bird does the same @ times....150+k miles,
