Ford ExplorerThis long running SUV has stood tough against the barrage of new entries into the mid sized SUV market, and with a variety of engine sizes and trim lines, the Exploder offers something for everyone.
Good evening, last December my wife and I decided to buy a 2002 ford explorer xlt for our family, we always wanted to have one like this.
At first everything was going well, but in mid-January the problems started.
First the check engine light came on. We bought a scanner and it gave us the codes p0171 and p0174, doing physical research on it. we noticed the following:
+ Oxygen sensor on the driver's side of the harness burnt, it was replaced.
+ lack of power when accelerating, it seemed that I had no gasoline.
With the change of the oxygen sensor, the engine stabilized a little more.
but then a vacuum leak appeared in an injector. It was taken to service and everything seemed to be fine.
but on the way home we drove for 1 hour, and when we arrived at a space where we had to do some shopping, when we wanted to start the truck it did not start, if it started but it did not start.
After 30 minutes, since the temperature of the engine dropped a little, it started but very forced and after 30 seconds the revolutions picked up and we were able to drive home.
++ It should be mentioned that the fans never turn off when the engine is turned on at full speed.
I request your help since we are desperate since it is our only vehicle. Greeting from México
2002 ford explorer, my beauty
Would be worth checking fuel pressure. Also, on many models, if the coolant temperature sensor (for the computer) is disconnected, the fans will turn on automatically. It would be worth looking at the integrity of its wiring and its resistance for various coolant temperatures. If it is telling the computer the coolant is 230 degrees on a cold engine, it "ain't" gonna like that.
Could be many other things but this comes to mind.
