Default 2016 Explorer keyless entry problem

We just purchased a 2016 Explorer with push button start. I reset and programmed a new keyless entry code. But neither the new code or the factory code won’t unlock the vehicle if the key fob isn’t near the vehicle.

Is this true for all keyless entry systems or is there some setting in the Sync 2 programming that will allow unlocking without the fob nearby?

Doesn't your FOB have the buttons to unlock the doors?

It does but that’s not the issue. It’s that the keypad code doesn’t work to unlock the vehicle without the fob being nearby. If I left the fob in the house I have to go back in to get it… which defeats the purpose of having a keypad if I have to have a fob with a unlock button anyway.

No other vehicle I’ve owed with a keypad had to have the fob nearby to unlock.

Essentially the keypad is useless unless you accidentally lock the fob in the vehicle.
