Default '93 Explorer Trans - No Reverse!

I put a used trans (that was sitting around for a while) in my '93 Explorer. It works find in all forward gears, but I have no reverse.
Any ideas of what could be the problem?

Ok, first off, is it auto or man...does it make any sounds like it's trying to get into rev...if it's manual, will it not go into gear or the gear doesn't engage...need more info

Hi Sabretooth, thanks for the speedy reply.

It's an automatic transmission mated to a 4WD gearbox. There is absolutely no response, no sounds or movement, when the shift lever in put into reverse, but every thing shifts as expected in drive.

Thanks for the reply,

Ok Back , If the tranny you took out was the same ? , An its not grenaded inside , Prehaps you can get what you need off it , Tranny's aint that hard , I know they look kinda scary , But its all nuts an bolts in the end , Just pay attention to what you take off , look at the bolts/ screw any different length ?? , If so make note of it , You dont wanta crack a valve body by putting too long a screw in it . Find you a good tranny book , You might have to order it, They are GREAT , Most have step by step instructions in them , along with very good pictures ( my personal favorite ), An After you do your first one , You'll be asking yourself why you were so worried about taking it apart ,, Now granted there are some special tools you need to like take the clutch paks apart an re-assy them. Call around you might be able to rent them , instead of buying ..Oh Oh stupid question you got the tranny full of fluid , I know some will have foward gears an no reverse if its a tad low !!

My best advice for doin it yourself (learned through experience) make a sketch (you don't have to be an artist) and label what you take out and where it goes back...even to the point of numbering the pieces so that when you re-assemble, you do it in reverse...that way you don't forget a piece...it gets messy when you forget a piece... ... ... believe me...
