94 fuel gauge

a buddy of mine has a 94 explorer n his fuel gauge is broken. im used to working on VWs so I was kinda offset with the best solution to his problem can anyone help any similar problems

Probably has a float with a hole in it. Not unusual for that age. You can by the float at a local ford dealer.
