ok here it is
THE PROBLEM:
it wont go into reverse and in drive it goes fine in 1st and 2nd gear but the higher ones tend to rev more then actually work.. The over drive light keeps blinking on and off.

ENGINE:
4.0 SOHC 4x4 XLT

any solutions would greatly be appreciated.

Default RE: 98 explorer transmission

so i took it to a transmission shop and the results were as follows;

all the gears were good
problems was :
the heat temp sensor inside burned up causing the traning to over heat which lead to all the acuators and other internal sensors to burn out thus causing the training from working properly.

he said this was rare and the cause of this failure in the transmission is usually the planetary gears breaking which was not the case in my situation.
