Default Can anyone relate , headlights on Explorer limited dim. Less bright than most vehica

New to the site, go easy on me this is my 2nd for Explorer limited v8 4.6L have a few questions but what recently comes to mind is the front head lights. I bought the truck used good condition couldn't help but notice that the headlights are not very bright. I changed them out with a brighter bulb from pep boys hoping it would be the answer but still not enough ,, my next step would be LED. Not sure I'm ready to spend the $ on the kit to change over to LED ,,

if if anyone has a similar issue or any suggestions I'm all ears ,, also was thinking of adding an LED light bar but still doing research

Thumbs up

Welcome to the site..

By dim if you mean more than any other alike Explorer?, I'd check for correct voltage at the H/L connector or possible ground issue. Now if like my 05 F250,, the headlamp output was pretty lacking, ok very lacking! even high beams (holding the flash to pass worked ok for temp/emergency situations) or maybe even more so high beam ops. I tried the higher lumens lamps, a tad better but I just couldn't get any real distance out of them 'and' were in deer country. Always trying to look and see ahead of the barely lit roadway and off centers.

What I did was mount 2 100w aircraft landing lights it standard utility type round PAR enclosures mounted just below the trucks frame tow hooks. Looks sorta stock, the available light gives me 'plenty' of viewing distance and illuminates 'well off the roadway sides' for anything 'thinking' of darting out in my path. Fairly inexpensive to put together.. I just don't care for the extreme white, blue etc colors given the shadow affect most seem to throw off.. The difference between the stock lighting, and the added dual 100w combined with OE lamps,, no comparison....

I have a Ford Explorer 07' limited , I'm not sure if your options really apply to me also would changing the headlight solve my problem ,, I'm not convinced I need new headlight frame ,, I'm referring to the quantity of light after buying a stronger aftermarket bulb ,, not certain if any of the info or your sales pitch apples to me .... if so please elaborate

For what it's worth,
whenever confronted with a low /limited light output, even before changing the bulb, voltage checks should be made to confirm proper power is available to the lamps.and good ground paths are present. Connections do have a tendency to deteriorate. Not knowing the history of your vehicle ,Hayapower gave sound advice . Are you able to do the electrical checks he suggested? Not knowing if the integrity of the electrical system is up to par, there is always the possibility of throwing money at a problem and not correcting the real problem.

My suggestion was 'first' to check for 'correct voltage', grounds possibly, if the lamps seemed more or excessively dim over what a stock output should be.. If all checks out,, and your still not satisfied with the brightness, there's alternatives to boost your night visability over the offered aftermarket lamps that are restricted by wattage in stock headlight assemblies, and their circuits..
That said, you mentioned an aftermarket light bar w/LED's,, my lamp mods worked well for my application and wasn't a sales pitch. I tried the available aftermarket farther distance/higher/wider outputs bulbs and was still disappointed. A low cost alternative for me was the aircraft lamps, so mounted a few in simple enclosures, and the total light output and night visibility at long range, fantastic.....
