Default cooling fan "whine"

Hello, everybody:
I just "inherited" a '93 Explorer from my son -- as he paid off a debt to me. My question is this: What is making the fan area sound like a 747 warming up when I rev the engine? It is a high-pitched whirring sound, much noisier than the quiet Ford Taurus wagon I've been driving. Does this just come with the territory, or is there a part I can lubricate to make the fan area quieter?

^ I agree. Sounds like a fan clutch to me.
