I want to change the tires myself but I have a question because I read that for Wheel Lug Nut Torque one recommendation is that nut and bolt threads need to be free of dirt.
Can I use DW-40 to clean the threads? or what else can be used?

It's actually 'WD' 40.

Stands for Water Displacement-40th formula.

When changing tires/rims, if there's only normal slight dirt/rust, usually they'll come right off without a lube, or, if more corrosion, just a quick brush and you could use a product like WD, or a drop or two of motor oil etc. on the threads There's also a product called 'anti seize' that is aluminum paste or can be copper based and can help with the install and to better protect the treads in corrosive conditions like salt. Rusted lug nuts/studs can be more of a challenge and unless severe will usually still break loose, although a lube is always good insurance. If heavy rusted, some lube prior to trying to break the nuts loose usually will help protect the threads from damage as the lugs are removed. WD isn't really a lasting protectant or lube, and somewhat quickly dissipates. There are graphite and thread/rust buster sprays available, but usually lugs with some type of light lube, oil etc. aren't any trouble..
