Question Explorer 2005 Headlight adjuster beam

Hello again my fellow Explorers. Can someone help me out with the proper way of adjusting my headlight beam. I was out tonight trying to figure what is going on with my headlights. They seem to be abit high. They are hitting the signs along the road. I've been inspecting the beam adjuster part. However, I was moving it side to side. And for some strange reason nothing really happens. Its sort of loose and just in place within the headlight brackets behind. Is the broken or needs some sort of tighten ? Anyone else tried adjusting these properly? Any help would be appreciated.

I would have a body shop do it for you. They know the procedure where the beams land at a given distance. . It's more than tweeking adjusting screws and guessing that it is correct and won't blind oncoming traffic.

Most headlamp assys have an adjustment for horizontal AND vertical positioning. Did you look for the second adjustment.

Hanky. all I see is a vertical beam that moves side to side. It doesn't do anything to adjust the beam. I see nothing else to adjust behind the headlight.

A little tip,,,many times a lamp assy will kinda freeze there . When turning the adjustment screw a little in one direction you might carefully bump the lamp with your hand to dislodge it and watch which way it moved. Now you have an idea which way you want to go You may need to bump the front of the lamp to get it to move each time

Hanky, Can you explain a little more in detail ? I tried bumping and adjusting the headlight position. But no luck with that.

Are these the original bulbs in your lamps?

On some units, you would loosen the adjustment screw move the headlamp where you wanted to have it shine , then tighten the screw.
See if that works for you.
