Default fishy smell

The other night, i was driving 4X4 on the beach when i got stuck. After a while of trying to get out, i heard a sound under the hood that sounded like boiling. Then smoke came out and under the passenger side of the car in the front there was a small flame but i couldnt see where it was coming from. After i put it out and waited a while, it smelled like transmission fluid but that went away and it seems to be running fine. Now there is a fishy smell that i thought was antifreeze but im not sure if it is transmisson fluid. Also, after getting it off the beach and driving home, my O/D off light flashed which i know is transmisson problems. But it stopped. Now the fishy smell remains. Any suggestions as to what its going on? Thanks, Dan

Will Dan,
I think you heated up the exhaust pretty good. Maybe 4X4ing out there you picked something on the exhaust, then cooked it. I'd take a close look under the truck, see if you find something (trash or plant, whatever). Good luck

How about the AC, is that still working, sometimes when you spring a leak, the AC oil smells fishy...

I'll have to go along w/ cctxfish, I'd check the manifold and the exhaust for stuff stuck to it...I'd laugh if there was some dang ol' fish stuck up under there...but it may just be some trash so give it a look

leaking oil usually causes foul smell and ocassionally emits light smoke. can be added up as one probable cause.
