Default heat?

Is it typical for a 91 4.0 explorer to be extremely hot under the hood?? My explorer gets very hot under the hood, the intake and airbox get too hot to touch and so does everything else!! is this an explorer typical or is there something i need to fix to cool it off a little?? any suggestions or help would be appreciated thanks

No the temp guage is in the normal range and it seems to be working properly. But there is just a ton of heat under the hood the coolant doesnt boil and the motor doesnt over heat everything is just extremely hot to the touch. things that it seems to me souldnt be.
