Heater/AC fan randomly working/not working
First time posting anything anywhere, so you know I am desperate.
The heater/AC fan on my 1999 Explorer 4 dr. Limited (V6, auto, 2WD) runs sometimes, then sometimes not. It had the common resistor (only runs on high) problem about a year ago,so I replaced it and that fixed that problem. Now it has decided to simply work randomly. It may be my imagination, but it seems to come on when you run over a bump or slam the hood. I changed the fan relay and it worked for a fewhours (tease!) then went back to its old ways.
It seems as though it is a loose ground, as a pot hole will sometimes jar it to work, once working, it stays working until I turn off the engine. But all looks tight and checks out. No squealing, no bearing noise. Could the fan motor have a "burned spot(s)" on the commutator, could it be that this is a Lucas Electricfan somehow installed when Ford bought Jaguar? at least then (as along time British Car Owner)it would make sense.
I know that I can't be the only one with this problem, but I looked at the Forum and most address the resistor when the fan "only runs at one speed" solution. That's not my problem, mine is one of a fan with a mind of it's own.
I have no problem replacing the fan motor, but don't want to start on the slippery slope of replacing parts at random hoping for a cure, although that's how you have to appease British Cars. It's not about the parts to them. They just have needs... Thanks, Andy

The only thing left to check and"Replace" is the blower motor switch itself. There maybe a little work involved to get the switch out, but if the motor was getting tired it would have placed a current load on the switch and plug contacts.
Taking the path of just replacing things can get expensive and disappointing.
